The municipal administration has cracked the whip on cattle owners, who let out their cattle astray on streets here.
The action was taken following complaints to the civic authorities from the public and warnings from the Krishnagiri Municipal administration.
Speaking to The Hindu , Chairperson of Krishnagiri Municipality K.C. Thangamuthu said that the cattle belonged to those buying animals for beef.
“Beef sellers buy these animals and let it off for straying. Later, the animals are taken for butchering.”
The move also comes following complaints from the public that stray cattle were posing accident.
The issue was also taken up at the council meetings.
According to Mr. Thangamuthu, despite repeated warnings, it was found that cattle were let astray on the streets posing hurdles to vehicular traffic. So, we decided to fine cattle owners, who came to claim their animals. The municipality has fined Rs. 1,000 per animal and has collected up to Rs. 13,000 from cattle owners.
