: A bountiful harvest awaits the students and teachers of University College in the heart of the capital city; the clutch of plantains that were planted in 2014 and cultivated using organic practices is just a month away from harvesting.
The plantain farm was set up and maintained by the cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Army wing of the college.
The first of the saplings was provided by K. Mohan, father of an NCC cadet and winner of the Harithasree award.
The Commanding Officer of the NCC Kerala Battalion II, Col. B. P. Singh, and college Principal V.T. Beena were among the regular visitors to the farm, said Robinson Jose, NCC caretaker officer at the college.
