Kudumbasree floats goat farmers’ company

Kudumbasree has set a new model of social welfare: Minister

: Minister for Social Welfare M.K. Muneer said here on Sunday that Kudumbasree Mission had set a new model of development and social welfare by launching the Kannur Goat Farmers’ Producer Company here, which is claimed to be the first all-woman producer company in the country.
Inaugurating the company, the Minister said that though the goat farm project launched in the district under the aegis of the Kudumbasree Mission had received an order from Australia to supply goat meat in bulk, it could not do so because of obstacles in export procedures. He exuded hope that the obstacles would be cleared.
Kudumbasree Mission officials said at the function that the goat meat had high demand in the domestic market as well.
At present, 959 units comprising five goat farmers each have been formed in 60 grama panchayats and a municipality in the district, they said adding that each unit rears a minimum of 20 goats. The Kudumbasree Mission in the district and the new producer company would widen its operations to include production of fodder and conduct goat markets at regular intervals, they said.
A.P. Abdullakutty, MLA, presided over the function. The Minister handed over the funds collected by the Kudumbasree members for Sneha Jyothi benevolent fund to district panchayat president K.A. Sarala.
