ITDA steps up efforts to boost fish farming

The move is aimed at helping local tribal people augment their income

In an effort to encourage tribal people to take up fish farming, the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam, has initiated a fisheries development project sponsored by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in Aswaraopet mandal.
The project envisages growing of fish on an extensive scale in Peddavagu reservoir, a medium irrigation project in Aswaraopet mandal by involving local tribal people under the aegis of a tribal cooperative society.
It is aimed at enabling local tribal people to augment their income by undertaking fish farming in a big way, sources added.
A huge quantity of 6.68 lakh fish seedlings worth Rs 3.34 lakh were released into Peddavagu reservoir at Gummadivalli village in the mandal on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, ITDA Project Officer D. Divya said the NFDB project would help tribal people improve their income by taking up fish farming.
She exhorted the local tribal people to form a tribal cooperative society to make optimum use of the project and tread the path of progress.
The members of the tribal cooperative society will be provided training in fish culture at the Regional Training Institute in Warangal.
Fisheries Department Assistant Director V. Srinivas and others were present on the occasion.
