Yanthra Mela for farmers from January 24

A three-day mega Yanthra Mela showcasing the latest implements to help farmers will be held at Vivekananda College of Technology, Nehrunagar, Puttur, from January 24.
With 230 stalls, the third such fair — held once in three years in the district — promises to be the biggest.
Konkodi Padmanabha, president of Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO), which is co-hosting the Mela, said Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh would attend the fair and interact with farmers.
About 4 lakh farmers from Karnataka and Kerala are expected to participate in the Mela, which will have daily demonstrations of different equipment.
Students who wish to showcase equipment developed by them will get a stall for free and the best product by an engineering student would get the Varanasi Subraya Bhat award comprising Rs. 1 lakh in cash.
Focus on neera
Publisher of Adike Patrike and progressive farmer Shri Padre, who heads the organising committee, said there would seminars and stalls — among others — on ‘neera’ — coconut inflorescence sap — on which a lot of work was being in Kerala.
