Agribusiness seminar on Wednesday

A stakeholder awareness and education seminar on agribusiness and commodities price risk management will be held at 3.30 p.m. on Wednesday at Mahaveer Bhavan, Ravindra Nagar, here.
Organised by The Hindu Business Line with commodity futures market regulator Forward Markets Commission (FMC) and the country’s largest agricommodity futures exchange — National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) — the seminar seeks to bring together hedgers and prospective hedgers in the agricultural commodity markets with a view to creating awareness about price risk management.
The participants will include stakeholders such as producers, processors, trading houses, importers, exporters and others in the physical market who need to manage commodity price risks.
Major agricultural commodities produced and traded in Karnataka include grain, spices, cotton, sugar, oilseeds and edible oils.
The event is supported by the Hassan Chamber of Commerce and Industries. T.S. Devaraja, professor and head of the Department of Commerce at Hema Gangothri, University of Mysore, Hassan, will be the chief guest. R.P. Venkateshmurthy, editor of Janata Madhyama , a Kannada daily, will deliver the keynote address.
Experts will make presentations on various topics such as ‘Commodities as critical driver of India’s economic growth’ by G. Chandrashekhar, The Hindu Business Line , and ‘Benefits of commodity futures trading and exchange perspective and price risk management’ by an NCDEX representative.
